Düsseldorf, Germany – February 26, 2013

Nokia Siemens Networks modernizes and expands GSM and HSPA+ networks, and rolls out LTE on 1800 MHz band

Germany’s E-Plus Group has selected Nokia Siemens Networks as a partner for deploying its 4G, LTE (long term evolution) network. The mobile broadband specialist will also modernize and expand the E-Plus GSM and HSPA+ networks. The agreement between the two companies covers the delivery and integration of the operator’s mobile access network.

“E-Plus aims to offer mass market customers an optimal web browsing experience anytime and anywhere,” said Andreas Pfisterer, CTO and member of the board at E-Plus Group. “After the rapid upgrading of our network to the HSPA+ standard, we will continue our user-oriented and economically targeted network expansion strategy with the launch of a demand-driven LTE expansion under the motto ‘Smart LTE’.”

“While customers’ service expectations are increasing, the growing popularity of smartphones and bandwidth-hungry services are putting huge pressures on operators’ networks,” said Stefan Ilchmann, head of KPN customer business team at Nokia Siemens Networks. “Nokia Siemens Networks will provide its innovative technology to help E-Plus Group respond to these challenges, providing best-in-class mobile services.”

“E-Plus has acquired the right 1800 MHz spectrum to launch LTE in Germany rapidly and efficiently. Additionally, the operator will be in an excellent position to offer up to 100 Mbps (mega bits per second) over LTE and monetize the new technology soon,” said Ingo Goldenberg, head of E-Plus customer team at Nokia Siemens Networks. “As the world’s specialist in mobile broadband and leader in LTE commercial deployment, Nokia Siemens Networks will provide its global experience in order to leverage E-Plus’ spectrum assets and installed base to a maximum.”

Under the contract, Nokia Siemens Networks will expand E-Plus’ current HSPA+ capacity in the 2100 MHz band while modernizing its GSM network. As part of the contract, the company will deliver its radio access network which features its advanced energy-efficient, high-capacity Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station. The company will also provide its Liquid Radio GSM software suite, the market-leading GSM spectrum efficiency suite that enables operators to free GSM spectrum for LTE. Nokia Siemens Networks will also expand the capabilities of its NetAct network management system and deliver various services such as installation and integration, network optimization and build.
