PGASCOM enters the telecom domain

In 2008, PGASCOM made a strategic decision to enter the telecom domain through backbone transport services to local telecom service providers and enterprises across the Java & Sumatra region. PGN, PGASCOM’s parent enterprise had already engaged the services of a rival SDH supplier to monitor operations across its gas supply pipeline, but the company was not convinced with the service delivery at ground level. The business needed a vendor who could provide rapid deployment, with minimum operational and maintenance costs to the company.

Nokia Siemens Networks’ channel partner PT Abhimata Citra Abadi (Abhimata) was chosen after an intense selection process, keeping out strong competition from Nortel, Huawei, ZTE and Marconi. Abhimata was engaged to design, supply, install and commission the new network, as well as provide first-line maintenance. The project involved a phased deployment of nine DWDM links across the Java and Sumatra islands, to be completed over a period of five months.

Service delivery excellence has been the key factor in the successful execution of the deal. On-the-job training was given to Abhimata’s team during the course of the DWDM roll out.  Moreover, customized training courses on the network installation and commissioning process were shared with the Abhimata and PGASCOM team on their visit to Nokia Siemens Networks facilities in Germany and Finland.

The successful execution of this project continues Nokia Siemens Networks’ leadership in DWDM technologies and the optical networking market. Nokia Siemens Networks and Abhimata displayed remarkable persistence, innovation and a win-together spirit to achieve this deal, a precursor to even better gains in the Indonesian telecom space.
